The men's student futsal team of Ukraine at the World Cup got into group B, where they defeated Slovakia (4:1), conceded to Brazil (3:6) and beat Oman (9:0).
Having placed second in their quartet, the blue-yellow team went to Poland in the quarter-finals and defeated it - 7:0.
On Saturday, in the semi-finals, our boys played against the host of the championship, Portugal, and won over in the penalty shootout — 3:1 (regular time — 2:2).
Today, the Ukrainians competed in the finals with the Brazilian team, but, unfortunately, they lost - 4:6 (in overtime). So, in the end, the blue-yellow team became the silver medalists of the 2022 World Cup.
It should be noted that the men's student team brings medals from the world championship for the ninth time. Previously, the blue and yellow team won the World Cup three times (1998, 2004, 2012), took silver once (2008) and bronze four times (1996, 2002, 2006, 2018).
Let's add that Oleksandr Sukhov was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the men's tournament of the World Cup. Andrii Melnyk, who became the top scorer of our team, was recognized as the MVP of the 2022 World Cup.
