Euro-2024. The qualifying tournament begins in 10 groups: Ukraine misses the first round

Today, March 23, qualification for the 2024 European Championship will begin. 53 national teams, including Ukraine, will compete for 23 tickets to the continental forum. Germany already has one as a host country.  

Selection for Euro-2024 will take place in 10 windows from March to November 2023 (March 23-25 ​​and 26-28, June 16-17 and 19-20, September 7-9 and 10-12, 12-14 and 15-17 October, November 16-18 and 19-21). The two best teams from each of the 10 groups will get tickets to the final tournament. The fate of three more vacancies will be decided in the Nations League play-offs on March 21 and 26, 2024.

On October 9 of last year, the draw for Euro 2024 qualification took place in Frankfurt am Main, according to the results of which the blue-yellow have dropped to group C, where they will meet with Italy, England, North Macedonia and Malta.

The Euro 2024 qualifying match between England and Ukraine, which is scheduled for Sunday, March 26, will take place in London at Wembley Stadium. The meeting starts at 17.00:19.00 local time (1:XNUMX Kyiv time). For the national team of Ukraine, this will be the opening match of the selection cycle, as it misses the XNUMXst round, which will take place in our quintet today. At the start in group C, Italy will host England, and North Macedonia will host Malta.

According to regulations in the group competitions of the qualification of the European Championship-2024, with an equal number of points, the participants will take places in the final table according to the criteria in the following order:

1. more points scored in matches between these teams;
2. the best difference between goals scored and conceded in matches between these teams;
3. more goals scored in matches between these teams;
4. if, after applying the criteria from 1) to 3), several teams still have an equal rating, the criteria from 1) to 3) are re-applied exclusively to matches between specific teams;
5. the best difference between goals scored and conceded in all matches;
6. more goals scored in all matches;
7. more goals scored away from home in all matches;
8. more victories in all matches;
9. more away wins in all matches;
10. Fair Play indicators;
11. positions in the 2022/2023 League of Nations rating.

Playoff format

The play-offs of the Nations League/Euro 2024 will be held according to the cup system (two semi-finals and a final) in three branches - Leagues A, B and C. If the winner of the LN group has already made it to Euro 2024 through qualification for this tournament, his place in the play -of will take the next ranked team in this division. If there are less than four teams left in the group stage, the ticket will be awarded by the league below, taking into account the overall ranking in the Nations League (priority will be given to the best team in League D). Thus, each of the three play-offs will have its own winner, who will become a participant in Euro-2024. 

The draw for the final tournament of the European Championship will be held in December 2023, and the forum itself will last from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
