Andriy Shevchenko: "We believed in our victory"

President of the Ukrainian Football Association Andriy Shevchenko commented on the entry of the Ukrainian national team into the final part of Euro-2024 after the victory in the final play-off qualification over Iceland (2:1).

"Once again, I want to thank the ZSU - our boys and girls, who give us this opportunity to play football for our country, for our fans. I want to thank the President of Ukraine for his constant support of the team. I want to thank every fan, every person who cheers for football, for our country.

It was very difficult for our national team match. We understand that in such matches, when you make a mistake, it can be very expensive. Therefore, a certain nervousness was noticeable in the meeting with Iceland. But in the second half, when we started to control the ball well, the boys found the thread of the game.

Then there was a very cool goal by Tsygankov, which we missed a lot in the first match, against Bosnia and Herzegovina, because he has gained good form. And Mudryk's second goal was very spectacular. I'm glad it's starting to gain momentum. Now let's wait for the best that Mykhailo will be able to show at the Euro. 

I think that it is not possible to score in all matches, but it is necessary to play them with enthusiasm - especially in such important ones. And in the match against Iceland, the boys demonstrated it. We had one hundred percent faith in them, in the coaching staff.

Serhii Rebrov did an incredible job, because he took over the team at a very difficult time. He completely changed it, the national team has a surprisingly strong character. Even when we conceded - 0:1, it was clear that the team will not break, but will fight until the end. We've seen a lot of comebacks this season, and that's a good thing. We believed in our victory, believed in us. We have very talented people who will be able to overcome anything," said Andriy Shevchenko.
