Futsal Ukraine's national team gives way to Serbia in the first match of the 2020 FIFA World Cup elite round

The wards of Alexander Kosenko unsuccessfully began their journey in the elite selection round for the World Cup.

In the first match of the elite round of the 2020 World Cup qualifiers in Nis, Serbia, the Ukrainians faced the hosts.

In the starting 20 minutes, our team competed on equal terms with the Balkans, but in the final phase of attacks, luck was on the opponent's side. The goalkeeper of the Serbs came to the rescue after the shots of Shoturma and Zhurba, several more times the Ukrainians did not hit the goal line from good positions. Instead, the hosts managed to use their chances. Yes, Pršič shot Ivanyak after beating his partner on the left flank. In the 15th minute, after a positional error by the blue and yellows in the defense, the Serbs increased their advantage. Before the break, Bila Tserkva failed to realize the way out on its own.

The second half started unpleasantly for our guys - Pršič scored a double. The Ukrainians responded with several good attacks, but they lacked accuracy. In the middle of the half, the Serbs scored twice more, and between these goals fit an accurate shot Farenyuk. By the end of the match, Kosenko's charges switched to a five-pointer game, but managed to reduce the gap by only one goal.

Tomorrow, the blue and yellows will play the second match in the group - against Spain (starting at 21.30 pm in Kyiv).

The winners of each of the four groups of the elite round will go directly to the World Cup. The teams that take second place in the groups will advance to the playoffs, where two more World Cup tickets will be drawn. Butt matches are scheduled for April 9 and 12, 2020. The confrontation will be two-match. In case of participation in the playoffs, the national team of Ukraine will meet with a representative of Group A and will play the first match at home (April 9), and the return match - away (April 12).

In total, according to the UEFA quota, seven representatives of the Old World will be included in the finals of the World Cup, which will take place in Lithuania from September 12 to October 4, 2020 (Lithuania being automatically allowed to the final).

We will add that AFC (Asia) will be able to send five teams to the 2020 World Cup, CAF (Africa) - three, CONCACAF (North and Central America - four), CONMEBOL (South America) - four, OFC (Oceania) - one (qualified team of the Solomon Islands). A total of 24 teams will take part in the world championship.
