Euro-2025 among women's teams. The format of the selection tournament: how Ukraine can get to Switzerland

On September 22, the national women's team of Ukraine will start its next official tournament — the group round of League B, the first in the history of the Nations League draw.

Blue-yellows will perform in group B3, where teams from Poland, Serbia and Greece will compete in two rounds. Our national team will open the competition with a home match against Serbia.

How is the League of Nations 2023/2024 related to Euro 2025?

The qualifying cycle for Euro 2025 will begin in the spring of 2024 after the conclusion of the 2023/2024 Nations League and will consist of a group stage and play-offs. The European qualifying group stage will follow the same format as the Nations League, with teams divided into three leagues: League A with 16 teams, League B with 16 teams and League C with the remaining teams. And here it is important: the starting position of each participant in the leagues in the selection of Euro-2025 will be determined precisely on the basis of the results of the League of Nations-2023/2024.

What tasks will the participants of group B3 of the League of Nations-2023/2024 solve?

The four group winners of League B of the 2023/2024 Nations League move to League A for the Euro 2025 selection.

The four second-placed teams will play in tie-breaks against the third-placed national teams in League A. The winners will play in League A for the Euro 2025 qualifiers; the losing teams will play in League B.

The three best third-placed teams will play head-to-head matches against the best three second-placed teams in League C. The winners will play in League B within the European qualifiers; the losing teams will play in League C.

The lowest-ranked third-placed team and the four fourth-placed teams advance to League C.

How to get to Euro-2025 in Switzerland?

Therefore, the distribution of tickets for Euro-2025 will take place based on the results of the next league cycle. The eight best teams in League A (first and second places) will immediately go to the final tournament. If the host country, Switzerland, fails to qualify, it will still be guaranteed a ticket. 

The remaining passes will be drawn in two rounds of playoffs. In the first round, the third- and fourth-placed teams in League A will play the group winners and the top three second-placed teams in League C. The eight winners advance to the second round.

The four group winners and the top two runners-up in League B will play the remaining two runners-up and the four third-placed teams in League B. The six winners advance to the second round.

In the second round, 14 national teams will directly play for seven tickets to the final tournament of Euro-2025, where a total of 16 participants must perform.
