Dmytro Mykhaylenko: "The national team of Ukraine is in the status of one of the candidates for reaching the final part of the Euro"
From March 20 to 26, the youth national team of Ukraine will participate in the elite round of Euro-2024 (U-19). In order to make it to the final part of the European Championship, the blue-yellow team must take first place in the competition with the national teams of Switzerland, North Macedonia and Latvia. The host of the mini-tournament will be North Macedonia, the matches of the quartet will be held in Skopje at the Makedonija Gjorce Petrov and FFM Training Center stadiums.
On the eve of the meeting devoted to the preparation for these competitions, the new head coach of our team, Dmytro Mykhaylenko, answered the questions of the official website of the UAF.
— Mr. Dmytro, how was the correspondence meeting with your wards?
— I called many guys, wrote to them, besides, we have an analytical group that was at the qualifying round of the Euro, so I know a lot about the abilities of football players. It was also an opportunity to look at those players who were previously injured.
— As for the five foreigners in the team, is there enough information?
- So. I was dropped links to matches in which these footballers participated, coaches shared fitness data, and I myself spoke to the boys.
- We can't help but ask you about Andriy Shevchenko's son, Christian. Thanks to what qualities did he draw attention to himself?
— This football player plays in a strong championship — I don't think there will be any questions about the competitiveness of the English championship. Christian plays and scores there, scoring seven times in the last seven matches. He went through Chelsea's academy, which also speaks to the quality of the player.
— For you, the upcoming tournament is like a debut for mentorand the national team. Emotion present?
— There is a little excitement, because this work is different from club work. Most of the time has to be spent at the computer monitor, reviewing potential candidates for the national team. I can't wait to meet the team. The upcoming tournament is fast-paced, there are only three matches, and there is not enough time for preparation. There is no way to record anything - first of all, you need to convince the wards, to tune them into the kind of football that should produce results.
- What will he say?those about the upcoming opponents, Switzerland, North Macedonia and Latvia, is there a favorite among them?
- I think this is Switzerland. The qualifying round, in which the Swiss beat Italy and Sweden, is a confirmation of that. But we have information on all rivals. It is important to prepare well, nothing is impossible in football.

— Ukraine is a football nation. Now, in connection with Russian aggression, we do not have the opportunity to hold friendly matches, unlike other national teams. But we have character, the desire to win, and this also counts a lot, so our team is also in the status of one of the candidates for reaching the final part of the European Championship.
