Serhii Sapronov: "Our task in the Netherlands is to keep our registration in League A"

From March 14 to 20, the second round of selection for the European Championship among girls under 17 years of age will take place in the Netherlands, where the opponents of the Ukrainian women will be the hosts and the national teams of Spain and Turkey.

The head coach of the women's national team of Ukraine WU-17, Serhiy Sapronov, in a comment to the official website of UAF, spoke about the latest news from the team's camp:

— Thanks to the agreements of the UAF and the Football Association of the Netherlands, my wards have the opportunity to hold a four-day training camp in Delft, where we will also be based during the qualifying competitions. For the Ukrainian women, it was a great opportunity to practice on the grass surface, although it should be said that in Delft it is raining quite a bit, and the condition of the lawn is by no means the best.

The fact that all our matches will be played in the evening under artificial lighting is also a concern. Our girls have not yet had to play under such conditions. And at least somehow there was no opportunity to adapt, because the stadium where we train is without lighting, and therefore classes start after lunch.

— In the Netherlands, Ukrainian women will perform in the strongest line-up?

— Only Victoria Kostyukevich is missing, who is playing in Finland and did not escape a serious injury. There are only three newcomers in the national team - Anna Avramenko, Vlada Kabanova and Viktoriya Sanotska. I finally decided on the composition after the visits the final part of the girls' league WU-16 at the beginning of March in Lviv.

— What information do you have about the first opponents from the Netherlands, with whom you will meetto clarify the relationship on March 14?

— Unfortunately, I only have a video recording of the sparring between the Dutch women and the Bulgarian women. I understand that this is not enough, but we will have a certain idea in which style the hostesses will play.

— And who is the favorite, in your opinion, of this selection group?

- Spanish women. The rest of the participants are approximately equal in strength. Our task is not to finish fourth in order to keep our registration in League A.

— Who else, besides you, is part of the coaching staff?

— Lyudmila Lemeshko and Oleksandr Mytko. As for female players, there are 20 female soccer players in the Ukrainian delegation.

The seeding in the second-round draw was determined by the positions in which the national teams finished in the first round.

In League A, 28 teams will play in seven groups, including seven national teams that were promoted from League B following the results of the first round. The seven A-League group winners in the second round (and the best second-place finisher if Sweden finish first in the group) will qualify for the final stage, which will take place between 5 and 18 May. The fourth-placed teams in the groups will start the first round of the 2024/2025 season in League B.
