Natalia Ignatovych: "There were practically no chances to stay in the elite"
The youth women's national team of Ukraine returned from the Czech Republic, which failed spoke in the second round of Euro 2024 selection (WU-19), having been demoted in class.
The head coach of the youth women's national team of Ukraine, Natalia Ignatovych, in a comment to the official website of the UAF, evaluated the performance of her wards:
— In the best case, one could expect only third place, as the French and Norwegian national teams were much stronger. So, it was desirable not to lose much to the French women at the start, and at least not to concede to the Czechs in the second round and hope to overtake them by additional indicators at the finish.
— But this strategic plan did not work...
— If in the match against the French women, defending with great strength, we conceded only twice, then against the home team, we did not have the patience, because they scored the decisive goal for us under the curtain. Although, for the sake of justice, it should be said that the Czechs acted much more sharply and deserved the victory. It was impossible to challenge the Norwegians.
— Did the Ukrainian national team perform in the optimal composition?
— Yes, all the girls I wanted to see in the team came. However, unfortunately, their level of preparation was not enough to count on the extension of registration in League A.
- How can you explain it?
— The two days we had for preparation turned out to be not enough. It is not surprising that the advantage of the rivals in terms of physical condition was especially noticeable, and there were problems with the transition to the other half of the field. That's why it didn't even come to scoring moments...
- What's next?
— Soon we will find out about the opponents in League B. Of course, we will make an effort not to stay in it.
