Alexander Cheferrin: "We are confident that the introduction of VAR in August 2019 will give us time to establish its reliable operation"

The Referee Video Assistance System (VAR) will be used in the UEFA Champions League-2019/2020 beginning at the 1/8 finals stage and in other UEFA-sponsored tournaments, uefa.com reports.

The system is also involved in the match for the UEFA Super Cup in 2019 and the final stage of Euro-2020. It is planned to be introduced in the Europa League 2020/2021 beginning with the Group Round and the final of the League of Nations-2021.

This decision was made today at a meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee.

"We are confident that the introduction of a video assistance system for referees in August 2019 will give us enough time to establish its reliable work, train judges and thus ensure the effective and successful use of the VAR system in the Champions League - the world's leading club tournament," said the UEFA President. Alexander Cheferin.
