Ukrainian football legends supported the position of UAF president on the issue of the so-called "Super League"
Ukrainian football legends Oleh Blokhin, Ihor Belanov, Oleksii Mykhailychenko, Anatolii Demyanenko and Oleh Protasov have expressed absolute solidarity with the position of UAF President, UEFA Executive Committee member Andrii Pavelko and the Ukrainian Association of Football on UEFA's unquestionable support in the situation with the so-called "Super League".
The corresponding letter was sent to UEFA addressed to the organization's President Alexander Ceferin.
"Dear UEFA President!
As a confirmation of the statement unanimously approved by the UEFA Congress on April 20, 2021, which condemns the so-called "European Super League" (ESL), we are aware that 55 UEFA member associations unanimously support the leadership of European football in the case brought by ESL before the European Court of Justice. We sign this appeal in support of the resolution recently adopted by the Ukrainian Association of Football in favor of UEFA.
For our part, we would also like to recall that UEFA's powers and competence within the pyramid of the European sports model have long been recognized by football players in Europe, European institutions and national governments across the continent.
We support UEFA, who holds this position to ensure values to which the ESL is an affront: the uniform application of the accepted rules of the game, an appropriate balance of the national and international sports calendar, the safety of events and athletes, the openness of competitions, sporting merit, financial solidarity, competitive balance and the integrity of club competitions.
The risk to the individual national and collective European football identities is too great. Europe has a great legacy and history of open competitions and generous solidarity. This is why we stand ready alongside UEFA to support it in its fight to preserve sporting sports democracy and the European model of sport", - it is said in the letter.
