From now on, 17 teams will participate in the U-48 World Championships

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced that the U-17 World Cup will be expanded to 48 teams and will be held annually instead of biennially.

About this reports the official website FIFA. This decision was taken as a sign unwavering commitment of the governing body of world football to youth competitions.

From 2025, the next five U-17 World Cups will be hosted by Qatar, and the WU-17 girls' world championship will be held in Morocco in the same period. The girls competition will also be expanded (up to 24 teams) and will be held annually.

This decision follows a global call to focus on the use of existing football infrastructure in the interest of efficiency and sustainability of youth tournaments.
