Euro-2024 (U-19): Ukraine started the elite round of qualifying with a victory over North Macedonia
Today, on March 20, the youth national team of Ukraine (football players not older than 2005) started playing in the elite round of qualifying for Euro-2024 (U-19).
According to the results of the draw of the elite round, the blue-yellow team got into group 7 together with the national teams of Switzerland, North Macedonia and Latvia. Dmytro Mykhailenko's wards played their opening match against the hosts of the mini-tournament in Macedonian Skopje at the FFM Training Centre.
The first half was a close encounter but with the advantage of our boys. Krevsun headed dangerously, Gadzhyev and Synchuk checked the opponents' goalkeeper. And just before the break, Krevsun opened the score with a kick from a rebound after a corner.

Immediately after the break, Ponomarenko increased the advantage of the blue-yellow team with a well-hit shot from outside the penalty area. The Macedonians responded with inaccurate attempts by Nazifi and Giorgievsky. In the future, chances arose mainly near the home team's goal, in particular, Synchuk and Matkevych tested the goalkeeper.
At the end of the match, the Balkans remained in the minority. In such a situation, our team easily kept the gained advantage — 2:0. Dmytro Mykhailenko's wards will play their next match on March 23 against Latvia.

Elite round draw splitted 28 teams in seven groups, the matches of which will be held in March. The winners of the Elite Round groups will join the hosts, Northern Ireland, in the final stage, which will take place from 15 to 28 July 2024 and will be UEFA's selection for the 2025 World Cup (U-20).
