Euro-2024 (U-19). Ukraine defeated Switzerland and won a ticket to the final tournament!
Today, on March 26, the youth national team of Ukraine (football players not older than 2005) completed playing in the elite round of Euro-2024 qualifying (U-19).
Previously, Dmytro Mykhaylenko's wards defeated North Macedonia (2:0) and Latvia (3:0). The Swiss also recorded two victories, but had a worse goal difference. Therefore, a draw in today's match in Skopje was enough for the Ukrainians to win the first place in the group and a ticket to the Euro.
At the beginning of the meeting, Matkevych made a shot on goal with his head, and soon another attempt was blocked by his opponent. The Swiss responded with a dangerous free kick close to the post. In the 26th minute, Synchuk hit the ball from a sharp corner, but Huber saved his team. At the end of the first half, after a corner kick, Mykhavko hit a shot above the goal. Shortly before the break, Beney took advantage of a mistake by the Ukrainian defenders, but from a great position, he punched into the hands of Krapyvtsov.
In the 55th minute, Benei again found himself in a good position but shot higher. The Ukrainians responded with a dangerous episode by Synchuk, denied by Huber in the jump. But in the 63rd minute, the same Synchuk intercepted the ball near the penalty area and this time hit exactly into the top corner, opening the scoring.
Attempts by the Swiss to quickly equalize proved unsuccessful. Instead, in the 68th minute, after a throw-in, Krevsun overtook the keeper and Ponomarenko sent the ball into the empty net. Later, Matviy made a double, taking advantage of Mylhavko's cool deep pass from the center. As a result, the Ukrainian national team won with a score of 3:0.
Thus, our boys grabbed three victories, took the first place in the group and qualified for the European Championship, which will be held on July 15-28 in Northern Ireland with the participation of eight national teams. The draw for the final tournament is to take place on April 17 in Belfast.

Elite round draw splitted 28 teams in seven groups, the matches of which will be held in March. The winners of the Elite Round groups will join the hosts, Northern Ireland, in the final stage, which will take place from 15 to 28 July 2024 and will be UEFA's selection for the 2025 World Cup (U-20).
