The Ukrainian women's national team won the historic victory over Sweden

The Ukrainian women's national team defeated the Swedish team in the 2019 World Cup qualifying tournament.

For the match with Sweden, the coach of the Ukrainians Volodymyr Reva chose almost the same team that a few days earlier opposed the team of Denmark. The only change was the appearance on the right flank of Veronika Andrukhiv instead of Tatiana Romanenko.

The game started with a 30-minute delay due to a downpour that completely flooded the Arena Lviv field with water. Fortunately, the stadium staff managed to cope with the consequences of the disaster and did everything possible to make the match happen.

As in the meeting with the Danes, the beginning of the game was for the hosts, who took control of the ball. Gradually, the initiative passed to the Swedish team, which began to roll waves of attacks on the gates of Catherine Samson. But in the 11th minute, the wards of Reva conducted an exemplary speed counterattack, which ended with a blow to the technique from the left foot Ovdiychuk. Olga's attempt was weak, and the Swedish goalkeeper Lindal easily eliminated the threat.

In general, almost the entire first half of the meeting the spectators witnessed a tactical game. The Ukrainians tried to maintain compactness, not to leave much space between the lines and to act mainly as the second number. Titled Swedes as favorites played positional attacks, which, however, almost did not endanger Samson's goal. And in the 41st minute the stadium frantically welcomed the goal of Lindal: Andrukhiv broke through from the right flank to the center, passed to free Apanaschenko, and the host captain, technically beating the defender, billiards sent the ball to the far bottom corner.

Of course, Gerhardsson's team was not satisfied with this course of events, as Sweden has never lost points in the 2019 World Cup qualifiers. After 56 minutes, the visitors tied it up at 11 - XNUMX when a fantastic pass from the left was finished off by Asllani.

In the 70th minute, a real fire broke out in the Ukrainian women's goal area, during which our defenders blocked the shots of several Swedish players at once, and Folkeson shot straight into the goalkeeper's hands. In 10 minutes, the Ukrainians dispersed the counterattack, which was completed by Ovdiychuk - the goalkeeper parried the winger's shot. Shortly afterwards, Lindal once again saved her team from trouble when Andrukhiv dealt a dangerous blow.

The last moments of the game took place in a continuous siege of the Ukrainian goal, but our girls withstood the pressure of the formidable Swedes and got a fantastic result - 1: 0!
