U-21: renewed Ukrainian national team in Kiev draws with Georgians

November 16 in Kiev at the National Technical University V. Bannikov Youth Team of Ukraine U-21 held a control match against Georgia.

After playing in the selection for the European Championship in 2019, the head coach of the blue-yellows Oleksandr Golovko assembled a new composition of the youth national team of Ukraine (players not older than 1998). As part of his acquaintance with the new wards, the Ukrainian leader planned a training camp and a control match against his peers from Georgia.

The game took place in Kyiv at the STC. V. Bannikov, and the gathering of young people started on November 12 in the city of Irpin, Kyiv region. Prior to the sparring, the blue-and-yellows worked in a one-time training mode with an emphasis on tactical work. First, Alexander Golovko summoned 18 players to the national team, but later two more midfielders joined the team - Volodymyr Yakimets from Shakhtar and Vadym Yanchak from Lviv.

"As for our team, it brings together boys born in 1998, excluding players born in 1999-2000. The latter are now working together with Oleksandr Petrakov, will hold friendly matches in preparation for the World Cup, which will take place next year, - said at the beginning of the five-day meeting, Alexander Golovko. - At this training camp we will get acquainted with the players, we will see them not only in the game for clubs. We will find out how ready they are to meet our requirements, how ready they are for self-realization and self-motivation, for working in the national team. "

As a result, the newly made youth players drew with the Georgians, scoring three goals. The national team of Ukraine quickly took the lead after Rusyn scored a penalty in the 7th minute. But, having missed the goal, the guests from Georgia seized the initiative and took good care of the hosts. As a result, one of the long passes to the penalty area of ​​the Ukrainians ended with an accurate shot by Lakveheliani. The Georgians tried to take the lead, but in the last minute of the first half the blue-yellows scored the ball in the locker room after a spectacular combination.

After the break, Alexander Golovko made several substitutions, and it was fresh players who helped the hosts score the third goal. Its author was midfielder Vadym Yanchak, who represents FC Lviv. But soon the Lviv resident turned into an antihero, kicking his opponent in the head and earning a seizure.

Losing - 1: 3 and gaining a numerical advantage, the Georgian national team played more actively, trying to win at least a draw. In the 77th minute, Lakveheliani scored his second goal, the Ukrainians went into full defense, but could not keep the winning score. The joker of the Georgian national team Lazha Lezhava was the first in the rebound after the corner and accurately scored on the hosts' goal - 3: 3. And already at the time added by the referee, the guests remained ten, after Arabidze received the second yellow card.
