125th Anniversary of Ukrainian Football Celebrated at the Arena of Lviv by a Match between Veterans of National Team and Carpathians

In a friendly match on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of Ukrainian and Lviv football at the Lviv Arena, the stars of the Carpathians minimally defeated the stars of the national team.

The celebrations on the occasion of the anniversary began in the afternoon in Stryj Park near the monument on the site of the first football match in the history of our country. Flowers were laid at the foot of the monument, and a special redemption of a stamp and a commemorative envelope issued by the Lviv branch of Ukrposhta and the Lviv Philatelic Society took place. They are collectible and will be distributed around the world, in particular - in museum collections. The President of the UAF, a member of the UEFA Executive Committee Andriy Pavelko congratulated all those present on the holiday, praising the contribution of Lviv region to the football life of the country.

About five thousand fans and honored guests gathered in the stands of one of the best stadiums in our country to see football legends with their own eyes. And many of them visited the city of Lev this Sunday evening. It is symbolic that the footballers, who once defended the honor of the main team of our country, and the players of "Karpaty", whose predecessors established a unique achievement 50 years ago, came together in a face-to-face duel - became the first and only team in the first league to win the USSR Cup. The match and other memorable events were organized by the Ukrainian Football Association, the Football Federation of the Lviv Region, the Association of Football Veterans of Ukraine and Agribusiness LLC.

"We had various suggestions on how to celebrate the anniversary by arranging an unforgettable holiday for football players and fans," said Oleh Sobutsky. - Thanks to fruitful cooperation with the chairman of the Lviv regional federation Alexander Shevchenko with the help of the president of UAF Andrey Pavelko we arranged a holiday at "Arena Lviv", one of the most modern stadiums of the country. We see that many spectators came who missed the game of their favorite football players of the past years. Myron Markevich, Anatoliy Demyanenko, Oleg Protasov came on the field in the starting lineup of the national team, later they were replaced by the younger generation. It is good that many young people have gathered in the stands, who are not indifferent to our glorious history. "

In the first half of the match on the football field as part of the blue-yellows lit Ruslan Rotan, who now coaches the youth team of Ukraine, and as part of Lviv - Mykhailo Gurka. They most often sharpened the game. Oleg Sobutsky had a good opportunity to open an account, but at the last moment the founder of the veterans' team lacked accuracy. In the second half, Artem Fedetsky and Volodymyr Yezersky wore green and white T-shirts and played for Karpaty, to which they dedicated many years of their careers. The audience greeted Myron Markevich with loud applause, who, despite his respectable age, gives peppers on the football fields. In the future, both teams only added in the offensive action, playing on opposing courses. The fate of the match was decided in the last minutes, when due to a misunderstanding between Donets and Reva, the ball treacherously rolled into the national team's goal.

It is symbolic that, as on July 14, 1894, when the first official demonstration match between the teams of the Sokil Society from Lviv and Krakow took place (from this moment, the history of Ukrainian football begins), everything was decided by a single goal. All participants of this match received commemorative medals from the hands of UAF President Andriy Pavelko and the head of the Football Federation of Lviv region Oleksandr Shevchenko. Also memorable awards were given to people who are actively developing and promoting football in the Lviv region - veterans of the "Carpathians", coaches, officials.
