Euro 2020. Eight steps of the national team of Ukraine to the final tournament: the final draw in Belgrade

In the eighth match of the qualifying tournament for the 2020 European Championship, which was officially postponed to 2021, the Ukrainian national team drew with Serbia on the road.

Our team played its last qualifying match, securing the first place in the group in advance. However, the result of the match had some practical significance for the blue and yellows, as a victory or a draw guaranteed them a seed from the first basket during the draw of the main stage of the Euro.

The match started with the attacks of the hosts, however, the case helped them to open an account. Tadic struck from outside the penalty area, Pyatov controlled the situation, but the ball hit the hand of Matvienko. The referee appointed an 11-meter, and the same Tadic did not make a mistake.

Towards the end of the half, the advantage of the blue-yellows was embodied in Yaremchuk's goal. Roman hit his head perfectly after Tsygankov's flank pass.

At the beginning of the second 45 minutes, the Serbs realized one of their positional attacks, but in the compensated time, the Ukrainians staged an attack on their goal and drew. Andriy Shevchenko's joker, Besedin, scored from Yarmolenko's pass. 2: 2.

After the match

Andrii Shevchenko (head coach of the national team of Ukraine): "I am pleased with the way the team conducted this qualifying tournament. Despite the fact that we won the ticket to the final part of the Euro in advance, it was very important for us to play well today. We understood that Serbia plays confidently at home, its players represent good clubs.

As for the goal in the last minutes, we missed the beginning of both halves, there were optional mistakes. Our team was not like itself, there was such a segment when we made a mistake four or five times in a row. In the episode with the second missed ball, the team stretched on the field, which could not be expected. In these moments, we did not play very well, so we had to play back. We did not give up our game, rebuilt a bit, released fresh players, found an opportunity for attacks, especially on the right flank. I think our second goal is deserved. "

Artem Besedin (forward of the national team of Ukraine): "I think we took the match seriously, despite the fact that we have already reached the Euros. We didn't want to lose, so we were looking for happiness in the attack until the last minute and we were glad that we scored the saving ball in the end. Thanks to the fans, they were not in the stands, but we knew that we were supported by many people in Ukraine and in other countries. The team felt it throughout the qualifying tournament. "
